The BJO is coming back to New York! From October 26-31, the prestigious Brussels Jazz Orchestra plays at Lincoln Center's Dizzy's Club Coca Cola with award winning pianist and composer, Kenny Werner.

After a long absence in the States, the European orchestra from—you guessed it!—Brussels, capital of Belgium and Europe, will unleash its virtuosity in New York in a week-long appearance at Jazz at Lincoln Center. Under the direction of Frank Vaganée, the Orchestra introduces Werner's brand new compositions and arrangements at the distinguished Dizzy's Club Coca Cola.

“The BJO is by any measure a world-class ensemble. [ ] A breathtaking big band in Brussels? Believe it."

Referring to “Naked in the Cosmos," the record Werner and the BJO made together, the guest leader says, “I refused to record my big band music in the past because I hadn't come across an ensemble that was capable of performing it. Now that the BJO and I have found each other, I'm so glad I waited."

Brussels Jazz Orchestra

Founded in 1993 the Brussels Jazz Orchestra has consistently raised its profile through world-class performances, reinforcing its reputation as one of Europe's most active and forward-thinking jazz ensembles. Hailed by the press and funded by the Flemish government, the BJO has logged more than 50 international performances in 2010. It has recorded and performed with featured greats such as Dave Liebman (a 2011 NEA Jazz master), Maria Schneider, Dave Douglas, Richard Galliano, Gustavo Bergalli, Norma Winstone, McCoy Tyner, Maria Joao, Kenny Wheeler and Lee Konitz. Most recently he has received a Guggenheim Fellowship Award for “No Beginning, No End," an orchestral work dedicated to the memory of his daughter Katheryn. Kenny has published several books, including the celebrated “Efffortless Mastery," and has been teaching workshops and masterclasses nation-wide. As a GRAMMY nominee, Kenny Werner has played with jazz's greatest practitioners. Read more about him at http://kennywernerlive.com/

Koen Maes, BJO's manager, says: “Kenny has been a long-standing friend of our orchestra. Since we have recorded “Naked in the Cosmos" together we consider him one of our favorite artists. Kenny is one of the most inspiring, adventurous contemporary musicians of our time. We are honored to play with him in New York City and will take the opportunity to prove once more BJO's world-class reputation."
