BRIC is pleased to announce programming and other details of the 2016 BRIC JazzFest, the second annual edition of the celebrated new Brooklyn jazz festival, conceived and curated by Jack Walsh, Diane Eber and Brice Rosenbloom. The 2016 festival delivers on the promise Nate Chinen of The New York Times suggested, when he wrote in a glowing review, “Given what’s still a limited infrastructure for jazz in Brooklyn, BRIC JazzFest could be an important force for good.” The festival expands this year to a full week of programming (October 8- 15), including a new series of jazz film screenings and a three-day concert marathon, with performances taking place simultaneously in the various spaces comprising BRIC House (647 Fulton Street, Brooklyn). The first night of programming will be free to the public thanks to a new partnership with the New York City Mayor’s Office of Media and Entertainment. BRIC will distribute a significant portion of the tickets to local community organizations.

The three-night jazz marathon includes performances by Eddie Palmieri Latin Jazz Septet, Terrace Martin, David Murray Infinity Quartet, Marc Ribot Trio, Jose James, Lisa Fischer, Krystle Warren, Taylor McFerrin & Marcus Gilmore, Ben Allison & Think Free, Harold Lopez Nussa, Julian Lage, Lakecia Benjamin Soulsquad, Big Yuki and many more.

Four additional free concerts that include two evening performances for all ages and two daytime concerts for 500 students from surrounding schools has been made possible with support from the Mayor’s Office of Media and Entertainment.

A new, free, two-night film marathon on two giant screens in BRIC House will feature an array of classic films that shed light on influential artists and historical moments in jazz.

BRIC President Leslie G. Schultz said, “BRIC is deeply grateful to the Mayor’s Office of Media and Entertainment for enabling the expansion of BRIC JazzFest in 2016. The administration’s support will result in greater opportunities for New York City jazz musicians, strengthen an important new marquee music festival in New York City, and enable BRIC to better connect traditionally under-served audiences with world class live music experiences.”

Jack Walsh, BRIC’s Vice President of Performing Arts, said, “The first annual BRIC JazzFest was trailblazing, and in its second year, with support from the mayor’s Office of Media and Entertainment, we are thrilled to expand the festival with an extraordinary array of free and low cost programming including an enlightening film marathon, concerts for students from local schools, and a three-day jazz marathon with performances in all of the amazing spaces in BRIC House.”

“The BRIC Jazzfest is a wonderful opportunity to enjoy New York City’s rich history and culture in this all-important musical genre,” said Mayor’s Office of Media and Entertainment Commissioner Julie Menin. “We are thrilled to support the BRIC Jazzfest so that New Yorkers from all backgrounds can experience the festival and gain an appreciation for all the art form has to offer. We look forward to continuing this strong partnership with BRIC, a local arts and media organization dedicated to promoting and celebrating our City’s vibrant culture.”
