Born in 1938, Perry Robinson is the son of famous composer Earl Robinson ("The House I Live In," Joe Hill"). For the past 50 years he has devoted himself to the art of jazz clarinet. He was a seminal member of the 1960s free movement and the 1970s loft scene, and over the course of his career he has played with luminaries such as Dave Brubeck, Archie Shepp, Tony Scott, Gunter Hampel, and William Parker. In addition to jazz, Perry has also played with musicians as various as Bob Dylan, George Clinton, Pete Seeger, and Ginger Baker. Perry recently published his autobiography Perry Robinson: The Traveler (co-written with Florence Wetzel and published by iUniverse). In the Village Voice Gary Giddins praised the book, calling it [o]ne of the most informal, engrossingly personal jazz memoirs in years."
