Bobby Sanabria
Multi-Grammy nominated Jazz and Latin music artist, bandleader and educator, Bobby Sanabria, and the Manhattan School of Music Afro-Cuban Jazz Orchestra, have nominated for a Latin Grammy (LARAS) for Tito Puente Masterworks Live!!!, in the Latin Jazz category.

Under Professor Sanabria's direction, it's the second time the 21-member orchestra has been nominated for this prestigious award. Two years ago, the ensemble was nominated for a Latin Grammy for the Kenya Revisited Live!!! 2009 recording, making it the first orchestra comprised of students to ever be nominated for a Latin Grammy in the organization's history.

Reacting to the news, Sanabria said: “My students have worked so hard to achieve this honor. And this accomplishment demonstrates what can be achieved through the power and positive energy of music education. I am very proud of them. It's a shame, however, that due to the elimination of the Latin Jazz category in the mainstream Grammy's (NARAS) back in April, that they will not be able to compete for a mainstream Grammy award, as representatives of this style of uniquely American music, because the category was eliminated. This is unacceptable; and we will continue to fight for the restoration of the Latin Jazz Grammy category, as well as the other 30 categories that were eliminated by NARAS."
