PITTSFIELD, MA: As part of its year-round commitment to live jazz, BerkshiresJazz.org has scheduled a special event on May 4. The double bill features NY-based vocalist Elli Fordyce, plus the Boston-based Jazz Tuber Trio. It will take place in the intimate setting of the backroom at Baba Louie's Sourdough Pizza, where Berkshires Jazz presented Armen Donelian in October, 2011, in one of the most memorable concerts ever presented by the non-profit organization.

Elli Fordyce is a highly accomplished vocalist and actor. She has performed all over the New York Metro area and throughout North America, including appearances in the New York Cabaret Convention and in festivals. Fordyce's work conjures the likes of June Christy and other great jazz singers of the late 20th century. She will be backed by the Berkshires Jazz Trio, headed by pianist Andy Jaffe.

Founded and directed by Eli Newberger, who was a co-founder of the New Black Eagle Jazz Band, The Jazz Tuber Trio comprises leader Newberger on tuba (and occasionally keyboards); vocalist/banjoist Jimmy Mazzy, and reedman Ted Casher. In the best of the jazz tradition, they perform their own unique treatment of familiar American jazz standards.

The concert ($20 for all tickets, general admission) caps-off the inaugural “First Fridays Artswalks" in downtown Pittsfield, when more than two dozen venues will be featuring the paintings and other hanging art from local and regional artists.

Tickets are now on sale online at BerkshiresJazz.org. Dinner reservations should be made separately to Baba Louie's (34 Depot St., Pittsfield), at 413-499-2400.

Berkshires Jazz, Inc. is a non-profit organization whose mission is to present jazz events and encourage jazz education in Berkshire County, Massachusetts. It was formed in 2008, as an outgrowth of the Pittsfield CityJazz Festival, which remains a signature event of the Fall Foliage season in western Massachusetts.
