Berklee Announces 2008-2009 Sovereign Bank Music Series

The 2008-2009 Sovereign Bank Music Series at Berklee presents eight concerts featuring Melissa Ferrick, Eva Ayllon, Daniel Lanois, Wayne Shorter, and much more. Many of these artists will perform with Berklee students, faculty, or alumni, showcasing Berklee's own heavy-hitters alongside the best of contemporary folk, jazz, Latin, pop, and r&b.

Berklee is pleased to welcome Borders as the supporting sponsor of the series.

All concerts begin at 8:15 p.m. (unless otherwise noted), at the Berklee Performance Center (BPC), 136 Massachusetts Avenue, Boston, MA. Tickets for all shows are available at ticketmaster.com and at the Berklee Performance Center Box Office, 617-747-2261.

September 13 - Melissa Ferrick

Melissa Ferrick shares a unique relationship with a devoted audience. Her live performance is fierce and funny, outspoken and vulnerable, passionate and real. Tonight she celebrates the release of her new album, Goodbye Youth. Tickets: $30.

November 6 - Eva Ayllon

The great African-Peruvian singer/songwriter and “Queen of Lando," Eva Ayllon performs songs from her extensive catalog with a Berklee student and faculty group led by Oscar Stagnaro, professor of bass. Tickets: $30.

November 16 - Daniel Lanois

Record producer and singer/songwriter Daniel Lanois, a seven-time Grammy Award-winner who has worked with Bob Dylan, Brian Eno, Peter Gabriel, Emmylou Harris, and U2, brings his band to the BPC stage to kick-off his stay as Berklee artist-in-residence. Tickets: $30. This concert begins at 7:30 p.m.

December 3 - Wayne Shorter 75th Birthday Celebration

Saxophone legend and NEA jazz master Wayne Shorter celebrates his 75th birthday year with his first concert in Boston in over five years, featuring his quartet with drummer Brian Blade, bassist John Patitucci, and pianist Danilo Perez, a Berklee professor. Tickets: $66, $46.

February 5 - Jazz as Condition: Mint Condition

R&B group Mint Condition is known for their great musicianship and dazzling live shows, and tonight they will stretch out even further, showing how jazz informs their sound. Tickets: $30.

March 1 - The Great American Songbook: The Music of Burt Bacharach

With hit records in five decades, Burt Bacharach has earned his place among the great American popular songwriters. Tonight Berklee welcomes him to the songbook series that has featured the music of Duke Ellington, George Gershwin, Cole Porter, and Stevie Wonder. Tickets: $30.

March 7 - Shining Stars: The Music of Earth, Wind & Fire

Berklee students perform the music of multi-platinum selling funk, soul, rock, jazz, and pop band Earth, Wind & Fire, with special guest vocalist and Berklee honorary doctor of music Phillip Bailey. Tickets: $30.

April 16 - Singers Showcase: The 25th Anniversary

Celebrating its 25th season, this night of pop, r&b, Latin, folk, blues, and more features Berklee's finest emerging vocalists and very special guests including Lalah Hathaway. The outstanding lead singers will be chosen from typically more than 100 students who audition for a spot in this immensely popular concert. Tickets: $30.
