From Chicago to Russell City will Celebrate Pinetop Perkins 94th Birthday

From Friday July 6, through Sunday 8, 2007, 11:00 am to 7:00 pm, the Bay Area Blues Society's 8th year of the Hayward-Russell City Blues Festival will feature the greatest stars of Chicago Blues ever in California at one time.

The theme this year is “From Chicago to Russell City," and will feature the world's oldest blues piano player, Mr. Pinetop Perkins. We will celebrate his 94th birthday on July 7th at the Hayward-Russell City Blues Festival.

Other special features for this From Chicago to Russell City performance include the reunion of the “Sons of the Blues," which include Billy Branch, Lurrie Bell and Carl Weathersby. This show will have the legendary Eddie Shaw and Mr. Chicago, Taildragger. Other great top blues artists from the Windy City include Willie Big Eye Smith, Big Time Sarah, Nellie Tiger Travis, Vance Shaw, and on his first visit to the San Francisco Bay area, Doug McDonald.

The followup to a hugely successful 2007 West Coast Blues Hall of Fame and Award Show in Oakland last month where Oakland resident, Tower of Power vet Lenny Williams, Teddy “Blues Master" Watson, Terrible Tom Bowden and Big John Evans and R&B legends, Ike and Tina Turner were inducted, the Hayward-Russell City Blues Festival is touted as one of the top blues festivals in California and the number one music event in the Tri-valley area.

For the past 17 years the Bay Area Blues Society, a non-profit, 501 (3) organization, has been dedicated to the perpetuation, preservation, promotion and representation of Blues, Jazz and Gospel as Classical indigenous American art forms. We are dedicated to educating the world to this rich American musical heritage.
