Battle Of The Bands Palm Beach County Semi-Finals Takes Place Tomorrow

Only the best (rated Superior) Middle and High School Jazz Bands, will compete in the semi-finals of the Battle of the Bands Palm Beach County. Four winning schools receive $1,000 each and go on to the finals. The event is sponsored by the Swing and Jazz Preservation Society (JSPS) in cooperation with District 14 of the Florida Bandmaster's Association.

Awards will be presented by Palm Beach County School Board member Karen Brill and SJPS President Rene Zerah. Semi-finalists are: Boca Raton—Don Estridge High Tech MS, Omni MS, Boca Raton HS, Park Vista HS, Olympic Heights HS; in Boynton—Christa McAuliffe MS; in Palm Beach Gardens—Dwyer HS; in Wellington—Palm Beach Central HS; in West Palm Beach—Dreyfoos School of the Arts.

The event takes place Friday, February 24, 2012 from 6:30 pm-10:30 p.m. at Olympic Heights Community High School Auditorium, 20101 Lyons Road, Boca Raton, 33434. There is no charge, and it is open to the public with first come, first seated.

The Swing and Jazz Preservation Society is a 501 (c)3 non-profit dedicated to keeping American swing Jazz alive by offering six concerts per year of the finest musical entertainment in the genre and then donating money and instruments to public school music programs. This year is the first Battle of the Bands Palm Beach County and when it's over a grand total of $22,100 will have been awarded to various schools from Jupiter to Boca. The contest was developed in conjunction with District 14 of the Florida Bandmaster's Association which recruited the judges and created the rules.
