Acclaimed bassist-composer-arranger Kyle Eastwood will be embarking on a select run of U.S. tour dates with his band in November. The tour includes performances at The Blue Note in New York City, Blues Alley in Washington, DC, and Anthology in San Diego. Eastwood's band features Jim Rotundi (trumpet), Jason Rigby (saxophone), Rick Germanson (piano, keys), and Joe Strasser (drums).

Kyle Eastwood released his 4th CD as a leader, Metropolitain, on Rendezvous Music/Mack Avenue Records. Recorded at Studio Ferber in Paris, France and co-produced by Erin Davis (son of Miles) and by Eastwood's longtime writing partner, Michael Stevens, the session features pianist Eric Legnini, trumpeter Till Brönner, drummer Manu Katché, and special guest, French vocalist Camille.
Metropolitain came together over a week of rehearsals and four days in the studio. The title track encompasses the band's creative philosophy perfectly. “My initial idea for this song was a funk bass line that ended up becoming the intro piano motif," Eastwood says. “Then came the chord changes which Michael Stevens and I wrote the main melody over. Erin Davis had some ideas for the general drum groove, and the rest came together in the studio. I really love Camille's contribution to the song."
But the initial compositions on Metropolitain were not all submitted by the stalwart songwriting duo of Eastwood and Stevens. Eastwood explains: “'Bold Changes' is a song composed by Till Brönner; on 'Hot Box,' the main bass line was written by Martin Kaye...the rest was developed during rehearsals; 'Le Balai' was composed by my friend and trumpeter Graeme Flowers; and 'Live For Life' was composed and sung by our friend Toyin, whom Michael and I met at the Montreux Jazz Festival in 2008. We loved her demo of the tune, so we decided to record a version with my band for this CD. We did it 'old school,' with all nine musicians playing live in the studio. What you hear is one take."
Kyle Eastwood grew up in Carmel, California and is the son of actor-director Clint Eastwood. While doing his homework, Kyle remembers listening to records of jazz icons such as Duke Ellington, Count Basie and Miles Davis. Eastwood Senior had been attending the Monterey Jazz Festival since it began in 1958, and when his children were born, it became an annual family outing. Kyle's childhood had jazz as its soundtrack, and he credits his father with introducing him to the joys of the bass line. Kyle's first memory of playing music was when Clint taught him how to play the left hand bass line of “Boogie Woogie" while he played the right hand solo over the top.
Initially studying film, Kyle soon realized that jazz was his true passion. After years of paying his dues gigging around Los Angeles and New York, his debut album From Here To There was released on Sony in 1998. In 2004, Kyle released his second album Paris Blue on the Candid label. Kyle's third album Now was released in 2006.
Showing his ability as an accomplished composer, Kyle has contributed to the scores for seven of his father's films: The Rookie (1990), Mystic River (2002), Million Dollar Baby (2004), Flags Of Our Fathers (2006), Letters From Iwo Jima (2006), Gran Torino (2008), and Invictus (2009).
