SUNDAY, MARCH 18 @ 7:00pm
The Metropolitan Room

Hailed as one of the most stunning and soulful vocalists in the country ("a beauty to hear and behold - Daily News, “a singer of restrained but deeply felt emotion ... at once cool and sultry" - Time Out New York, “hauntingly intense and effortlessly real ... Fasano will get inside your heart and your head - St. Louis Magazine), award-winning vocalist Barbara Fasano returns to Manhattan's Metropolitan Room with a new set called “ROUND ABOUT" on Sunday, March 18 at 7pm. “A charismatic stylist who effectively channels the living spirits of the great ber-divas Lena Horne and Barbra Streisand" (Will Friedwald, The New York Sun), Ms. Fasano will sing songs by Vernon Duke, Duke Ellington, Jerome Kern, Dorothy Fields, Carolyn Leigh, Jule Styne, Kurt Weill, and others. Joining Ms. Fasano will be her pianist/arranger John di Martino, known for his work with Freddy Cole, Grady Tate and the late Ray Barretto. There is a $25 cover and a two-drink minimum. The Metropolitan Room is located at 34 West 22nd Street. For reservations, call 212.206.0440.

“My newest obsession is the exquisite song, 'Round About' by Vernon Duke and Ogden Nash," says Fasano. “John di Martino and I are exploring tunes that speak of the patterns of life experience, the circle we all swirl within. For this gig, we want to dig into a very intimate expression of that, just voice and piano." Fasano recently released her Harold Arlen CD, WRITTEN IN THE STARS, which is being called “a warm, beautifully paced, lush album ... one of the year's best" (David Finkle, Village Voice). Michael P. Gladstone of All About Jazz calls it “an album that demands repeated listening and appreciation!" The New Republic's David Hajdu raves, “With this record, Barbara Fasano proves that she is not just a great Italian crooner, an heir to Sinatra for our time, but a jazz singer of the first rank." Harvey Siders of JazzTimes praises Fasano's “taste, built-in dramatic chops, the ability to manipulate time, and, above all, respect for lyrics." PLAYBILL's Steven Suskin calls WRITTEN IN THE STARS “another Arlen collection that can be played alongside Harold's ... a bluesy, jazzy, swinging album of Arlen."

Fasano has appeared in nightclubs and concert halls across the country, including Jazz at Lincoln Center's Rose Hall and Allen Room, Birdland, Prince Music Theatre in Philadelphia, Kerrytown Concert House in Ann Arbor, Colony Hotel in Palm Beach, Sheldon Concert Hall in St. Louis and Carnegie Hall. In May, she opens the summer season at Caramoor in Katonah, NY with pianist/vocalist Eric Comstock.
