POSITION IN MUSIC: COMPOSER-IMPROVISER
Position: Assistant Professor (tenure track)
Start Date: July 1, 2021
We seek an established composer-improviser who will diversify the creative practices explored in the department's PhD program in Integrated Composition, Improvisation, and Technology (ICIT), and who will deepen the department's engagement with African American musics and whose presence (research, creative activity) will foster greater awareness of social justice and/or gender equity issues.
This person will teach graduate courses for the ICIT program and supervise the writing/research and creative work of ICIT PhD dissertations; will contribute courses to the department's undergraduate jazz curriculum or other areas; and will fulfill normal service duties appropriate to the position. Candidates should have professional experience as a composer-improviser, and an advanced degree in music or equivalent professional experience. University teaching experience is also recommended. Additional valued areas of expertise and interest include intercultural music making, intermedia, interactive/performative technology, and a demonstrated record of supporting the inclusion of women and people of color in contemporary music.
