The Artists Recording Collective celebrated its 5th anniversary on Pearl Harbor Day this month. Also, commonly known as ARC, the company is a registered Kansas Limited Liability Company (LLC) in good standing that is based in the scenic Kansas City metropolitan area at Leavenworth. ARC is simply a recording label and low intensity marketing platform that utilizes an innovative business model developed by saxophone recording artist, Chris Burnett, an entrepreneur who has been involved with digital music distribution and artist promotion via the Internet since the beginning of this era of the modern music industry.
The label was founded to realize and establish two simple necessities for its artists and producers: (1) to provide a professional record label infrastructure that establishes a platform from which to release recorded original musical concepts to the commercial public; and, (2) to realize an established brand to associate a collective roster of several high caliber individual artist-producers, from among both new and established artists. In the Spring of 2009, these tenants became tangible when ARC was contacted by DownBeat magazine unsolicited and included in a feature article about the new music industry paradigm.
“I sincerely believe ARC utilizes the most relevant music label business model for producers who actually own their work and it is very appropriate alternative for our modern times in music", Burnett states. “In this age of digital music (iTunes, Amazon, Spotify, Pandora, etc.), our company does not have to directly deal with the same types of barriers to market access as they existed in the old music recording industry."
The ARC catalog has grown significantly since 2007 and includes recordings by artists from around the world, in addition to some very fine recordings by Kansas City artists like: ARC founder and alto saxophonist Chris Burnett, guitarist Will Matthews of the Count Basie Orchestra, pianist Dr. Michael Pagán and vocalist Millie Edwards, the modern jazz group Sir Threadius Mongus, vocalist Toni Gates, and the emerging young local B3 organ player Chris Hazelton, among others. The ARC roster includes artist-producers who are based in major cities on both US coasts, Japan and Paris.
The “who's who" among musicians and artists appearing as featured artists and supporting players on recordings in the ARC catalog include master musicians like: Bobby Watson, Melvin Rhyne (Wes Montgomery's B3 player), Rufus Reid, Danny Embrey, Eric Marienthal, Brian Bromberg, Tierney Sutton, Billy Higgins, George Kahn, Joe Fonda, Michael Jefry Stevens, Jim McNeely, Doug Richardson, Don Aliquo, Matt Otto, Tony Suggs and Jeff Siege Siegel among others.
