April is Jazz Appreciation Month: NYU Jazz Studies Jams at Jazz at Lincoln Center

On April 10, New York University faculty member and jazz trumpet player, Brian Lynch, and his NYU Jazz Ensemble from the Steinhardt School's Department of Music and Performing Arts Professions, will perform at Jazz at Lincoln Center in celebration of Jazz Appreciation Month (JAM). The performance will take place from 9:30 pm - 10:30 pm at Dizzy's Club Coca-Cola, in Frederick P. Rose Hall, home of Jazz at Lincoln Center (Broadway at 60th Street). Admission is $15 per person; $10 for students with NYU ID. There is an additional $10 minimum per person at the table for food and beverage. Part of the “Jazz at Lincoln Center" initiative, this year's month-long tribute to jazz in New York City, features performances from NYU, the Juilliard School, the Manhattan School of Music, and the New School Jazz.

On April 14, the NYU Jazz Ensemble will perform live on WBGO-Radio (Jazz 88.3 FM) from 2 pm - 3 pm.

Jazz at Lincoln Center will host “Upstarts! Featuring the New York Metropolitan JAM Bands" of NYU and other schools on April 17 at Dizzy's Club Coca-Cola, 7:30 pm and 9:30 pm (tickets: $15).

NYU's band will perform again on April 25 at The Garage (99 Seventh Avenue South at Grove Street) from 8 pm - 1 am. There is no cover charge.

April is Jazz Appreciation Month (JAM), as declared by the Smithsonian Institution's National Museum of American History in April 2002. JAM intends to inspire the public to learn more about the glories of jazz as both an historical and living treasure. April is also the birth month of Jazz greats including Duke Ellington, Ella Fitzgerald, Bessie Smith, Johnny Dodds, Billie Holiday, Tito Puente, and Herbie Hancock, among others.
