AOL Adds 'Lifestreaming' to Bebo, Enters Classifieds

AOL on Monday enhanced both its classifieds offerings as well as Bebo, its social networking service. AOL added a “lifestreaming" feature to the latter, allowing a user to post stream-of-consciousness photos and other comments.

The move is an attempt to bolster the popularity of social network Bebo, which the company picked up in March 2008 for $850 million. The social network, which remains one of the largest such sites worldwide, has thus far struggled to gain a foothold in the U.S.

Lifestream will be rolled out on Bebo first, featuring updates from sites such as Facebook, MySpace, YouTube, Flickr, and Twitter. The app maps users' online timelines on a Lifestory timeline.

All Things D explains: “Lifestory uses a zooming technology to look at various times, using text, music, videos and photos and can be done with many contributors. It also includes a feature called Social Slider, which allows a user to have more granular filtering control over who sees what is in Lifestory."

AOL also launched itself into the online world of classifieds, partnering with Oodle to create Classifieds.AOL.com (Classifieds.AOL.ca, in Canada). Oodle, operator of the US's largest network of classified services, already has some 250 partners, including such big names as Facebook, Myspace, Wal-Mart, and Comcast.
