The Friends of Cape May Jazz, organizers of The Bank of America Cape May Jazz Festival have announced the line up of artists for their 34th festival, set for November 12th through the 14th 2010. Kicking off Friday nights performances are the Yellowjackets. The popular jazz quartet features Russell Farrante on keyboard, Will Kenndy on drums, Jimmy Haslip on bass, and at the drums Bob Mintzer. Performing at other venues throughout this Victorian city by the sea on Friday night are The Jonny Hirsch Blues Band, Monnette Sudler, Vocalist Taeko Fukon, The Terell Stafford Quintet and Umar Raheem's New York Connection.

So you want to be a jazz musician. Day two of the festival starts with workshops for both beginning and advanced musicians. Monnette Sudler and Bob DeVos will be teaching the guitar workshops, and the saxophone class will be under the tutorage of Tim Price. Mark Jacopec and Company will host the drum circle. Then the legendary Cape May Jams get underway filling the afternoon with jazz, blues, and good times. So many talented jazzmen and women will be playing at the jams we can't even begin to list all of them. You can meet your favorite jazz artist, and even get a copy of their latest CD's at the Saturday afternoon CD signing party.

For the first time since the closing of the Cape May's convention hall, due to structural problems, the entire festival will be held within a four square block area in the heart of Cape May. With all venues in close proximity festival goers will have time to stroll the recently refurbished Washington Street Mall and take in the Victorian charm of this historic city.

Jazz keyboard legend Les McCann joins with Javon Jackson to headline the Saturday night roster. McCann, an established soul jazz musician in the 60's, became an international jazz superstar with the release of “Swiss Movement" recorded at the 1968 Montreux Jazz Festival. McCann's discography continues into the new millennium. He has recently recording with friends Billy Preston, Diane Reeves and Bonnie Raitt. Javon Jackson came into international prominence as a member of Art Blakey's Jazz Messengers. The sound of Jackson's cool sax and the soul jazz piano of McCann is a collaboration not to be missed. An expanded number of venues this year sees Saturday evening packed with great jazz performances. Stroll through the gas-lit streets of Cape May or take the shuttle trolley to hear The Chris Bergonson Blues Band, vocalist Demetria Bailey, Ralph Peterson's Unity Project, The Bob DeVos trio, Mark Sganga, and Latin jazz from 3D Ritmo DeVida.

Sunday afternoon starts off with pre-jams featuring outstanding young musicians. These teens will have you stomping your feet and dancing in the aisles. Following the pre-jams another round of those legendary Cape May Jams gets underway at three locations. The party continues all afternoon until all the jam musicians get together and start to play “When The Saints Come Marching In" and everybody joins in the march to bid farewell to another Cape May Jazz Festival.
