What is the fantastic wine/music experience programmed for Monday 15th November, as part of the 42nd Voll-Damm Barcelona International Jazz Festival? In order to explain exactly what the Kurt Rosenwinkel Monvínic Experience is, we will refer to the article written for La Vanguardia's recently-published special supplement on the festival, by Sergi Ferrer-Salat, founder and owner of Monvínic and sponsor of the festival. If you should need any further clarification, Monvínic (93 272 61 87) will be happy to resolve any doubts.

«In the liner notes to the captivating and essential Bitches Brew by Miles Davis, Bob Belden, musician and expert on the works of this giant of jazz, wrote: “In the United States in 1969 [the year in which this double album was recorded], music connected and communicated shared feelings and experiences between the creators of the music and listeners. By doing this, the boundaries that once had existed between creators and audiences began to disappear." In the same way that music, as the archetypal universal language, can generate a unique and dynamic symbiosis between the artist and the listener, wine also possesses, within its own dimension, the ability to connect the person who made the wine to the person drinking it.

In those years of turbulent transition, the boundaries of jazz were definitively torn down by the creative genius of Miles and a group of mythical musicians (such as Wayne Shorter, Chick Corea, Joe Zawinul, Larry Young, John McLaughlin, Dave Holland and Jack DeJohnette). At this event, entitled the Kurt Rosenwinkel Monvínic Experience, the aim is to explore, through music, this magical interaction between the vigneron and the consumer in a radically new way. And what better way to do it than in the company of a remarkable combo led by a man widely considered to be one of the best and most influential guitarists in the world, the unmistakable Kurt Rosenwinkel.

Kurt will give expression, in the form of six solos, to his feelings about these unique wines, six indispensable creations of the Spanish wine scene: Taleia 2009 (Costers del Segre) by Raül Bobet; Do Ferreiro Cepas Vellas 2007 Magnum (D.O. Rias Baixas) by Gerardo Méndez; Sot Lefriec 2006 (DO Penedès) by Irene Alemany and Laurent Corrió; Clos Mogador 2001 (DOQ Priorat) by René Barbier; Molino Real 2001 (DO Málaga) by Telmo Rodríguez and Valdespino Amontillado Coliseo VORS (DO Jerez-Xérès-Sherry) by Eduardo Ojeda. Kurt will perform in Monvínic accompanied by these passionate vignerons as well as by two figures who have been key to the diffusion and prestige of these wines: the wine merchant Quim Vila (Vila Viniteca) and the sommelier Josep Roca (El Celler de Can Roca). They will all be charged, in person, with revealing the essence of each wine and their words, along with the wines themselves, will form the foundations upon which Kurt will construct his contributions. The Kurt Rosenwinkel Monvínic Experience, then, promises to create a new, distinctive and innovative way of experiencing our relationship with the world of wine.
