Trumpeter Al Harrison and his Dixieland Band will be playing a benefit concert Mardi Gras For Musicians!" at the Collingswood Community Center, 30 E. Collings Ave., Collingswood, NJ, on Fat Tuesday, March 8th to raise money for two local nonprofits that bring music to the Greater Philadelphia Metro area (the Tri-State Jazz Society and Regol Concerts) and Jazz Bridge, which assists local jazz and blues musicians in crisis. Trumpeter Al Harrison started his career by winning scholarships at the Philadelphia Musical Academy (now the University of the Arts) and never looked back. He quickly jumped into the Philadelphia International scene, playing and recording with Dexter Wansel and then toured with Stanley Clarke and Si Zentner. Harrison was a much-sought-after trumpeter for all the Atlantic City showbands in the 1980s, but found his home in the famous Showboat Dixieland Band, at the Showboat casino, playing there for many years. Al Harrison has played on the famous Delta Queen" in New Orleans and has backed up such greats as Tony Bennett, Jack Jones, Sammy Davis Jr.., and Billy Daniels. Appearing with Al Harrison will be clarinetist Gil Bennett, pianist Dave Posmontier, trombonist Frederick E Scott, bassist Ed Wise, and Lew Leabman on drums.
March 8th will also be a CD party for the release of Harrison's third CD, which will be on the Dreambox Media label.
