Afro Bop Alliance is a Latin Jazz Septet based in Annapolis Maryland, performing extensively throughout the Washinton DC-Baltimore area and Mid-Atlantic region. ABA is led by drummer Joe McCarthy and features Felix Contreras-congas/percussion, Harry Appelman-piano, James Fowler-bass, Luis Hernandez-saxophone, Tim Stanley-trumpet, Dan Drew-trombone. The band has been showcased at the JFKennedy Center for the Performing Arts, The Smithsonian's Jazz Cafe, The WC Handy Jazz Festival, Georgetown University, and is back at the Ram's Head Tavern after sold out performances last year with Vibraphonist Dave Samuels. Other guest artists featured with ABA include Arturo O'Farrill, Leader of the Lincoln Center Afro Cuban Jazz Orchestra, Ray Vega and Michael Philip Mossman. The band's debut CD, Encarnacion, featuring Arturo O'Farrill and Ray Vega, has received national and international acclaim.
