Adventuresome jazz ensemble, under director Mark Harvey, celebrates 30th season

Hailed by Jazz Improv for its “unapologetic creative edge" and praised by Downbeat for its “awe-inspiring audience fascination," the Aardvark Jazz Orchestra closes the Lake George Jazz Weekend with original works by music director/founder Mark Harvey and some rarely performed Ellingtonia. Harvey's “Remembrance," for the victims and heroes of 9/11, will be premiered, and his powerful tribute to John Coltrane “The Seeker" will be presented, along with “Saxophrenia," which Harvey wrote for and premiered with Joe Lovano. Selections from Duke Ellington's ballet score “The River" plus blues and free-bop tunes will round out this exciting program.

Now celebrating its 30th season, the Aardvark Jazz Orchestra, winner of the 2000 Independent Music Awards, has premiered more than 70 new works and has released 5 CDs on the Leo Lab and 9Winds labels to rave reviews around the globe. Mark Harvey has performed with Gil Evans, George Russell, Claudio Roditi, Howard McGhee, and others. He is a winner of awards from ASCAP, the National Endowment, and the Meet-the-Composer-Lila Wallace/Reader
