Two landmark events will happen in December which form collaborations between Boston and NYC improvisors. These two events, while very different in tone, each feature a legendary improvising ensemble from New York City paired with a selection of musicians from Boston's powerful improvisation community. In the hope of continuing such events, mark your calendars and spread the gospel.

SUMMIT I : BORBETOMAGUS meets HEATHEN SHAME, BEAT SCIENCE, and JASON LESCALLEET.
On Thursday December 5th the infamous NYC punk-jazz trio Borbetomagus strikes our fair city with a cross-section of hardcore Boston improvisors: Heathen Shame, featuring Wayne Rogers, Greg Kelley, and Kate Village; Beat Science, featuring Jim Hobbs, Charlie Kohlhase, Brandon Seabrook, Ron Caswell, and Jerome Deupree; and the singular Jason Lescalleet providing tape loops. At the Middle East Upstairs.

SUMMIT II : OTHER DIMENSIONS IN MUSIC meets JOE MORRIS TRIO.
Thursday Dec 12th will mark a landmark event and collaboration between two master ensembles. Other Dimensions In Music, one of the most tenured and respected free music quartets in the world, featuring William Parker, Roy Campbell, Daniel Carter, and Rashid Bakr meets innovator Joe Morris and his Boston-based Joe Morris Trio with Timo Shanko and Luther Gray. This double bill is a Boston revisiting of the much-talked-about double bill which occurred last summer in NYC's Triad Theater.

Borbetomagus is the two-saxophone, one-guitar trio that Byron Coley has described as “amongst the most powerful musical units to have rent our planet's surface". The infamous 80s punk-jazz trio that hit the Knitting Factory and CBGBs during the age of John Zorn and Naked City and was influential in spawning the Noise scene of the 90s...is back on a mini-tour with a documentary film crew in tow. Comprised of Don Dietrich and Jim Sauter on saxophones and Donald Miller on guitar, their show on December 5th at the Middle East marks a reunion after several years and the beginning of a mini-tour which ends at Tonic on December 7th with what the Village Voice is calling the Noise Event of the Year, a double bill with Merzbow, the reigning king of Noise from Japan.

Supporting the Middle East Dec 5th show is a cross-section of the Boston improv scene, including Heathen Shame, featuring Major Stars Kate Village and Wayne Rogers (proprietors of Twisted Village Records) and trumpeter Greg Kelley; Beat Science, the sextet featuring Jim Hobbs, Charlie Kohlhase, Brandon Seabrook, Jerome Deupree, Ron Caswell, and led by Brian Carpenter; and Jason Lescalleet, providing tape loops and electronic sound-layering.
