The holiday season is a big time for the music industry. Twenty percent of music sales happen in the last six weeks of the year. While major releases dominate this time of year, you can also use the holiday season to build your own momentum, increase sales, and set yourself up for a successful new year. Here are five tips to promote your music this holiday season.
1. Release a holiday single
Put your own spin on your favorite holiday classic, or write an original holiday song. A great holiday single can expose you to new fans and give you some longevity. If people really like your song, they'll play it every year during the holiday season!
2. Do a special holiday giveaway for your fans
Thank your fans for their support and show them how much you appreciate them by doing a giveaway. Give away special prizes such as exclusive merchandise or a chance to hang out with you. Bundle your prize with a copy of your latest album or EP, and use social media to run your giveaway to increase your reach and awareness.
3. Have a holiday sale on your music and merchandise
Take advantage of the holiday shopping madness and put your music and merchandise on sale. Bundle your merchandise and music together to make the perfect gift set. Send emails to your mailing list on a weekly basis throughout the holiday season to boost your sales.
4. Give back
The holiday season is the season of giving. Giving back also puts a positive spin on your brand image. Give back to your fans and community by doing a special showcase or party. Donate a portion of the proceeds to a local charity.
5. Perform at holiday parties
The holiday season is also a time of celebration. Many businesses, organizations, and individuals host holiday parties. Research holiday parties happening in your area and offer to perform. At each gig, make sure you have enough CDs, a sign-up sheet for your mailing list, and promotional materials handy to gain new fans and opportunities for future gigs.
