Bacchanalia Hosts a Benefit for The Mutual Musicians Foundation

Overland Park, KS. - The Mutual Musicians Foundation has been operating in the 18th & Vine Jazz District since 1917. Many call it the cradle of Kansas City Jazz. On April 13 and 14th, Bacchanalia, brings the music to 124th and Newton in Johnson County.

The Mutual Musicians Foundation was there for Lester Young and Count Basie. Charlie Parker began his musical education in the alley out back. Mary Lou Williams and Big Joe Turner knew the place. Some modern day music lovers find it hard to get to the Jazz District, so The Jazz District will come to them. On Friday, Valentine's Old School Knights will take requests and on Saturday, The Mutual Musicians Foundation Band will be swinging in the suburbs.

The weekend event combines music, art, fine food and wine. John Bukaty, a well known Kansas City painter who owns BluJak Gallery in Denver, will paint live each evening as the band plays. His art will be on sale and part of the proceeds will go to The Foundation. “I have a painting on display at The Mutual Musicians Foundation," says Bukaty. “The place has a special energy. I'm looking forward to getting some Kansas City jazz into the canvas." Bacchanalia will also provide some interesting auction items. The proceeds will go to The Foundation.

BACCHANALIA in Italian is a festival of food, wine, and fun. It derives its name from Bacchus the god wine and frivolity. The concept of BACCHANALIA is quite simple yet it is also very unique and new to the area, BACCHANALIA is simply a private dining facility. This facility is unique because it can be adapted to suit the needs of any guests. The doors open at 6pm for dinner. Live music from starts at 7:30 each night.
