Xerox Rochester International Jazz Festival Starts June 12-20 - 800 Artists, 225 Concerts, 9 Days!

Rochester, NY -- The Xerox Rochester International Jazz Festival (XRIJF) presented by M&T Bank, one of the nation’s fastest growing music festivals, starts Friday June 12th. Smokey Robinson, Dave Brubeck. Michael McDonald, Taj Mahal, Susan Tedeschi, Jake Shimabukuro, Carolyn Wonderland, and SMV The Thunder Tour with Stanley Clarke, Marcus Miller and Victor Wooten, will headline the nine-day event, which runs through June 20th.

The Festival will deliver a wide range of creative improvised music from some of the finest musicians in the world. More than 800 musicians representing 18 countries will make Rochester their destination as they perform in more than 225 concerts. To help music fans prepare, here is some helpful information.

Festival Series

The Festival is presented in three series and held in 15 venues in and around the East End Cultural District in Downtown Rochester. Park once and walk to most festival venues.

June 15 - RIJF-ESM Scholarships Performance “Celebrating The Legacy of Woody Herman" FREE

June 16 - Jake Shimabukuro and Carolyn Wonderland, $39/$29/$19+ service charge

June 17 - Dave Brubeck Quartet, $85/$65/$45 + service charge

June 18 - Michael McDonald, $85/$65/$45 + service charge

June 19 - Taj Mahal and Susan Tedeschi Band, $65/$55/$45 + service charge

Club Pass Series

150 concerts during nine days. Show times vary, see the full schedule at rochesterjazz.com or visit the Jazz Fest Ticket Shop for a brochure. No reserved seating or advance ticket sales. Unlimited access to all shows with the Club Pass. $20-25 single entry at the door, cash only without Club Pass. Admission not guaranteed. Shows frequently sell out so arrive early. First come-first served!

Where to Buy Tickets

Eastman Theatre Headliner Shows
$19-$85 plus service charges, buy at the XRIJF Ticket Shop 10 Gibbs St., corner of Gibbs St. & East Ave. Open daily during now through the end of the Festival from 10 a.m. to 11 p.m. or at the Eastman Theater box office before each show if still available.

Club Pass Shows

There are two ways to attend Club Pass Series shows: 1) Purchase a Club Pass, which is a value pass or, 2) Buy individual tickets at the door.

Club Pass – How it Works

Club Pass holders can access more than 150 Club Pass Series shows. The Club Pass is a value pass – it does not provide priority access. Purchase for $135 plus $4 service charge until sold out ONLY at the XRIJF Ticket Shop 10 Gibbs St., corner of Gibbs St. & East Ave. Open daily 10 a.m. to 11 p.m. nightly.

Club Pass tickets are non-refundable and will NOT be replaced if lost. Exchange your Club Pass ticket for a laminated pass at the first Festival venue entered.

Individual Club Pass Show Tickets

You don’t need a Club Pass to attend Club Pass Series shows. Individual Club Pass show tickets are available at the door at all venues, $20, $25 (Kilbourn Hall), cash only. Tickets for Club Pass Series shows are not available in advance. Just line up at the venue before each concert. First-come first-served.

Street Closings – these streets are closed to vehicle traffic during the following times to accommodate festival concerts and festival-goers.

Gibbs St., closed now through June 22 (Midnight)

East Ave. from Main to Chestnut, closed June 13 from 7 a.m.- Midnight and June 19,20, from 7 a.m. - Midnight

East Ave. from Prince St. to Alexander, closed June 19, 20, 7 am-11 pm

East Ave. from Chestnut to Scio, closed June 13, 19, 20, 4:30 p.m. - midnight

East Ave. from Alexander St. to Union, closed June 19, 20, 4:30 p.m. - 2:00 a.m.

Chestnut St. from Main to East Ave., closed June 13, 19, 29, 4:30 p.m. -Midnight

Make “Jazz Street” Your Destination!

Gibbs St. is closed to traffic during the Festival from 4 p.m. - 11 p.m. and becomes “Jazz Street.”

Bring stadium or folding chairs to enjoy free outdoor concerts.

A 30’ x 60’ curb-to-curb tent will cover a portion of Jazz Street to house the main Official Merchandise Store, sponsor kiosks, CD sales by Barnes & Noble, and the Artist Signing area for autograph signings by festival artists.

All sidewalks on both sides of the street remain useable.

The XRIJF Jazz Street Cafe will offer food service at tables.

More food and beverages are available from vendors and restaurants on Jazz St. and adjacent streets.

Accessibility

All venues are accessible to the handicapped. Individuals needing special assistance may call the Festival office in advance at 585-454-2060 or see a volunteer at the entrance of each venue. Individuals being dropped off may pull up in front of the Eastman Theatre at the corner of Main St. and Gibbs.

Festival Ticket Shop & Info Center

Located at 100 East Ave. at the corner of Gibbs and East Avenue in the heart of the Festival. Purchase Club Passes and Eastman Theatre tickets, get information, programs, and brochures. Open now through June 12, Monday through Friday, 10 a.m. to 6 p.m., June 12-20: daily, 10 a.m. to 11 p.m.

Nightly Jam Sessions - Jazz Never Sleeps!

For late night Jam Sessions don’t miss the State St. Bar & Grill in the Rochester Plaza Hotel, official hotel of the Rochester International Jazz Festival. You never know who will stop by to play! Sessions start at 10:30 p.m. and run through 2:30 p.m.

2009 Official Poster

David Cowles is the artist once again behind this year’s Official 2009 Poster. Purchase it at the merchandise tent for $15, unframed, $35 framed. David will be signing posters Thursday June 18 at 7:30 p.m.

Merchandise Tent, CD Sales & Artist Signings

Open on Jazz St. June 12-20, 5 p.m. daily. Purchase Official Festival Merchandise including t-shirts, hats, berets, polo shirts, fleece jackets, tote bags, grocery totes, mugs, ties, umbrellas, and more. Vintage items from past years are also available. Prices range from $5 to $40.

CDs of Festival artists sold courtesy of Barnes & Noble. Don’t miss artist autograph signings from 7:30 p.m. -10 p.m. daily according to artists’ availability.

Food and Beverages

Food and beverages will be available at all venues during performances and at multiple locations outdoors on Jazz Street and East Avenue. There are also restaurants within walking distance of all venues.

Checkpoints

XRIJF encourages all patrons to drink responsibly. Checkpoints will be set up at all exposed entrances/exits so to remind people not to leave with alcoholic beverages. On nights of free East Avenue concerts, wristbands will be issued and will be required to purchase any alcoholic beverage from outdoor vendors. Individuals wishing to purchase alcoholic beverages must show ID with proof of age.
