WBGO and NPR Music Ring in 2008 with Coast-to-Coast Toast of the Nation

WBGO Mid-day jazz announcer Rhonda Hamilton will host this year's Toast of the Nation, live from the new Yoshi's club in San Francisco; a state-of-the-art, 417-seat jazz venue located at the Fillmore Heritage Center. Hamilton, WBGO's senior on-air announcer, co-hosted her first New Year's Eve show with NPR in 1979 with Dr. Billy Taylor. Twenty-eight years later, the excitement continues as WBGO presents some of the very best live performances in jazz in this unique cross-country holiday party. Pianist Danilo Perez and his big band kick things off at Boston's Berklee College of Music at 8pm EST, and we will take you across the nation in real time as we celebrate the new year in every time zone with more very special guests.

8:00 pm - The Danilo Perez Trio and Big Band premiere his “Panama Suite" in Boston. Presented by WGBH Radio and the Berklee College of Music, and airing in Latin America on Voice of America.

9:00 pm - Jazz party from Amsterdam, thanks to Radio Netherlands.

9:30 pm - Grammy nominee Patti Austin sings “A Gershwin New Year's Eve" at the John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts in Washington, DC.

11:00 pm - Samba with Trio da Paz (Romero Lubambo, Nilson Matta, Duduka da Fonseca) and pianist Kenny Barron on a Brazilian New Year's Eve from Jazz Standard in New York. WBGO's Michael Bourne will be your host for the evening.

12:15 am - Nachito Herrera and the Steele Family Singers present a tribute to Earth, Wind & Fire at the Dakota Jazz Club & Restaurant in Minneapolis. Cuban fire and soul! Thanks to KBEM/Minneapolis.

1:15 am - The Convergence sextet parties to launch a new CD at the Dazzle Restaurant & Lounge in Denver. Thanks to KUVO/Denver.

2:15 am - The Count Basie Orchestra with special guest and Grammy nominee (Best New Talent) Ledisi celebrate the first New Year's Eve at the new Yoshi's in San Francisco. Thanks to KCSM Jazz 91 and KQED/San Francisco.
