Studio City bassist Von Babasin recently received the New York Foundation for the Arts Fiscal Artist Sponsorship.

Babasin, a 20+ year affiliated composer with BMI, a 10+ year member of Musician's Local #47, a member of NARAS, and advisor on the board of directors of Los Angeles Music Week, also has an extensive background in all aspects of film and video production and direction.

You may recognize the name Babasin, since Von is the son of one of the definers of the west coast jazz movement, bassist/producer Harry Babasin.

The fiscal artist sponsorship by NYFA is specifically for the production of a documentary film about Harry's life and contributions to west coast jazz history. “Harry Babasin's Jazz In Hollywood" is a sponsored project of The New York Foundation for The Arts (NYFA). NYFA is a 501(c)3, tax exempt organization founded in 1971 to work with the arts community to develop and facilitate programs in all disciplines. NYFA will receive grants on behalf of “Harry Babasin's Jazz In Hollywood", ensure the use of grant funds in accordance with the grant agreements, and will provide program or financial reports as required.

NYFA's quoted response to Babasin's proposal was, “we agree that this is a film that needs to be made". Contributions can be made directly to NYFA for artist, Von Babasin, or the project, “Harry Babasin's Jazz In Hollywood", and are tax deductible. NYFA has provided a link to their secure donation page.

“This is major breakthrough for me--to have such a distinguished organization deem my film worthy of sponsorship is tremendous validation for everything I have been working for", Babasin said. “It will also bring recognition to my west coast jazz museum project and all the great musicians in our archives."
