California based vocalist Sony Holland returns to her home state of Minnesota to debut at the Dakota Jazz Club on Sunday, September 20th. She will be backed by musicians from the Twin Cities.

As part of her sentimental journey she’ll also be singing with the Jazz Arts Group Big Band in Fargo, where she attended high school at Fargo North. That concert takes place the night before (September 19th) at the Venue. Holland will be giving master classes at both Trollwood and Fargo North.

Ms. Holland was born Sonia Einerson in Pelican Rapids, MN but is known by her childhood nickname “Sony.” In 2008 she withstood a challenge by SONY Corporation who attempted to usurp her internet domain by filing an unsuccessful complaint with the World Internet Property Organization.

Sony currently resides in Los Angeles, CA. She regularly performs at renowned jazz rooms such as the Catalina, Yoshi’s, The Rrazz Room, The Blue Note and has played major festivals in San Francisco, San Jose, etc… Sony has also toured extensively in Asia.

Her repertoire includes material from the Great American Songbook, including recent additions from a diverse group such as Rufus Wainwright, Bob Dylan, and others. Audio and video can be sampled on her web site http://www.sonyholland.com.

She also performs original songs by her husband Jerry Holland, who was a staff writer at Warner/Chappell Music Publishing in Nashville where they were set up on a blind date. Mr. Holland’s composition “Friends” was a #1 Billboard Country hit as recorded by Atlantic artist John Michael Montgomery. “Friends” was also Music Row Song of the Year in 1997.
