NORTH HOLLYWOOD, CA: Keyboard mallet masters will reign at Vibe Summit XXI, a joyful conglomeration of some of music's greatest vibes players in an afternoon of entertainment to benefit the educational programs of the Los Angeles Jazz Society. The event, open to the public, will be held Sunday, June 22 from 2 p.m. to 6 p.m. at the Remo Recreational Center, 7308 Coldwater Canyon in North Hollywood. Tickets are $20 at the door, $15 for Jazz Society members, or join the Los Angeles Jazz Society onsite for $35 and get free admission.

Vibe Summit XXI will showcase performances by a host of leading jazz vibraphone artists who will join in celebrating fellow vibes great, Garth Rodriguez, this year's Los Angeles Jazz Society honoree.

Among artists confirmed to perform are Lolly Allen, Nick Mancini, Joe Locatelli, Sam Noble, Kahlil Sabbagh, Richard Schwagerl, Harry Smallenberg, Abel Lagrimas, James Sabo, Dana Sudbourgh, Joseph Deaguero, and David Olds. Backing up the players will be Dave Mackay, piano, Richard Simon, bass, and Paul Kreibich, drums.

Vibe Summit honoree, Rodriguez, a San Fernando Valley native, began his professional career following music studies at Cal State University, Northridge, where he studied keyboard mallets under master teacher, Earl Hatch. He also spent 36 years in movie and television production as a sound technician in post production at studios including Universal, Disney, and Paramount.

“We're thrilled to honor Garth for his outstanding talent and musical career as well as his longstanding support of the annual Vibe Summit. Garth is not only a superb musician, he is a great ambassador of jazz," said Los Angeles Jazz Society President, Flip Manne.

Past honorees have included some of the best vibraphone players in jazz including Cal Tjader, Terry Gibbs, Milt Jackson, Larry Bunker, Emil Richards, Gary Burton, Chuck Redd, and Bob DeSena.

To honor the legacy of Vibe Summit founder, Mal Sands, a scholarship is awarded annually to support an outstanding school music program. This year's Mal Sands Award will be presented to the unique after-school music and enrichment program taught by Dan “TrumpetDan" Lukehart at his Brea Jiu-Jitsu studio. Lukehart, a former band instructor for Brea Unified School District, teaches trumpet, music theory and other enrichment classes, including chess as a provider of the Creative Brain Learning after-school education program. Sponsorship support of Vibe Summit XXI is provided by Remo, Inc., with all instrument and sound equipment donated by L. A. Percussion Rentals.

Coordinating the Vibe Summit for the Los Angeles Jazz Society is Yum Kane. Steve Tarango is the music coordinator, and will perform double duty as the concert emcee.

Food and refreshments will be available, along with a music marketplace offering CDs and music equipment. There will also be a raffle. Proceeds from the event benefit Los Angeles Jazz Society programs including Jazz in Schools and the Bill Green Mentorship Program to encourage young jazz musicians.
