Usdan Center for the Creative and Performing Arts, the nationally renowned summer arts day camp on Long Island whose Jazz Dept. was created more in 1986 by Dr. Billy Taylor, announces an Open House on Sunday April 21 from 11 AM to 2 PM. The Center's Jazz Dept. has now expanded to have Ensembles for Beginning, Intermediate and Advanced groups (formerly there was only Advanced).

Jazz stars who have performed at the Center and taught Master Classes include Usdan alumna Jane Monheit (who will perform again this summer), Jimmy Heath, Clark Terry, Arturo O'Farrill, Randy Brecker, Bobby Watson, Jon Faddis and Marian McPartland.

For more information on the Open House and the 2013 season (which begins June 24), contact Gail London at (631) 643-7900, [email protected], or visit usdan.com. Usdan Center is at 185 Colonial Springs Road in Wheatley Heights (Huntington), NY 11798.

Families can obtain information on the more than 40 programs in music, dance, theater, visual arts, creative writing, nature and ecology and chess at the Center. Also, tour the magnificent 200-acre woodland campus.

NEW FOR 2013: Three-week seasons (as well as four and seven weeks), and many new programs.

No audition needed for most courses, just an interest. Each year, more than 1500 students ages 6 to 18 are transported via air-conditioned buses from throughout the Tri-State Area.

Families who cannot attend the Open House may make appointments for other days.
