Ottawa (Wednesday, April 11, 2011)—Upholding its original mission, the TD Ottawa International Jazz Festival continues to celebrate the over-a-century-old conversation that is Jazz. This year's festival, the 31st incarnation, has brought new but not altogether unfamiliar voices to the fray. Robert Plant & the Band of Joy, Elvis Costello and the Imposters, k.d. lang and The Siss Boom Bang, Pink Martini, Return to Forever IV, YOUSSOU NDOUR, Paco De Lucia, Lucky Peterson, Béla Fleck & the Original Flecktones and Daniel Lanois' Black Dub will assume headlining duties in the Concerts Under The Stars series, which takes place at the one-of-a- kind Canal Stage at Confederation Park, in the heart of downtown Ottawa.

Robert Plant, of Led Zeppelin fame, and the Band of Joy open this year's Festival June 23. Plant's newest effort follows his five-time-Grammy-award-winning collaboration, Raising Sand, which he recorded with bluegrass fixture Alison Krauss. Band of Joy is yet another departure from his psych-rock ways and is considered by some to be an extension of Raising Sand as he further explores the roots of Americana, touching on shades of bluegrass, jazz and country while staying true to his rock foundation.

For those with a more traditional sense of the genre, the OIJF's Studio series hosted by the National Arts Centre Studio brings the heat in an intimate setting. The Joshua Redman/Brad Mehldau Duo, Christian McBride and Inside Straight, Kenny Wheeler, and Kurt Elling will give jazzophiles the up-close musical experience they crave.

Similarly, the Improv series at the NAC's Fourth Stage returns with a roster of talented improvisational musicians with the singular goal of pushing the language of jazz forward. Experimenting on the Fourth Stage this year will be, Elio Villafranca, the Gord Grdina Trio plus Mats Gustafsson, the Erik Truffaz 4tet, Pilc/Moutin/Hoenig and many more.

The best party in town this summer will be the OLG Late Night series, which boasts the return of 2011-Juno-Award-winning-rap artist, SHAD. Joining him in the late-night tent over the week will be Soulive, Jill Barber, the PepTides and more.

Festival passes start at $158.20(All prices include HST) for bronze level, Gold passes are $282.50 and student passes are $73.45. Single-day tickets are $56.50 and single-day- student tickets are $33.90.

Single OLG Late Night Stage tickets are $22.60.
