The music will mirror Another Timbre's imaginative blend of free improvisation, electro-acoustic improvisation and contemporary composition. Label favourites such as Angharad and Rhodri Davies, Lee Patterson, Seymour Wright, Sebastian Lexer, Bechir Saaade, Clive Bell and Matt Milton will be joined by a cast of like-minded players.
Perhaps the festival's biggest draw will be the return to Britain of Keith Rowe, who plays in both London and Leeds in a trio completed by saxophonists Seymour Wright (with whom Rowe recorded in 2002) and Swede Martin Kuchen.
Programme announced so far:
Thursday 11th June
8pm at Cafe Oto
Ashwin Street, London E8 3DL
Tom Chant, Angharad Davies, Benedict Drew and John Edwards. This quartet will be launching an 'another timbre' CD release. Provisionally titled Notations and Annotations, it's a combination of improvisations and interpretations of indeterminate scores by John Cage and Michael Pisaro. They will play two sets, one improvised, and one a realisation of Cage's Four 6".
Rhodri Davies, Lee Patterson, Louisa Martin, Lucio Capece. The trio of Davies, Patterson and Drew are launching a quintet CD Midhopestones on another timbre that they recorded in January with Michel Doneda and Phil Minton. Doneda and Minton can't make the festival, but Berlin-based reedsman Lucio Capece will be a fine replacement.
