The Stars Come Out in a Benefit for Jazz Pianist Wes Bulcavage (Bellcamp)

On Thursday, February 8th, 2007 a benefit was held for jazz pianist Wes Bulcavage (Bellcamp) who suffered a stroke about two weeks ago at his home where after 8 hours or more he was found on the floor. The benefit was held at Mixed Notes in Elmont, L.I. Many top jazz artists came out including: John Ray,bass - Revels Bay, drums - Frank O'Brien, - piano, Richie Iacona, - piano Hank Johnson, piano - Jerry Weldon, sax icon - Vocalists, Rosa and Madaline Cole, and many others. Admission was $20.00 to be used as a donation for Wes Bulcavage. Wes taught at the Five Town's College in Dix Hills, L.I. and was one of Long Island's best. Other musicians who attended included Bob Leto, drums, Bernie Burnett,bass - Butch Bateman, drums - Tony Francis, vocalist/drummer and many others. The place was filled with musicians and music. An electric piano was brought in for the evening becaus the club has no regular acoustic piano.

It is also noted that bassist Al Cardillo also dropped in taking many photographs and supporting the cause to raise funds for Wes. Al Cardillo also is recovering from a stroke. Wes Bulcavage (Bellcamp) has played with Billy Mitchell at the former jazz club SONNY'S in Seaford, L.I. and is an instructor in piano at the Five Town's College in Dix Hills, L.I. in music department.
