Nashville, TN - Some of Music City's most revered singers, songwriters and musicians recently gathered at the Bluebird Caf to celebrate the release of Jay Patten's critically acclaimed new album, Night Blue." A number of celebrity guests, including Crystal Gayle, Gary Nicholson, Nanci Griffith, Delbert McClinton, Jimmy Hall, Deborah Allen, Roberto Bianco, Vickie Carrico, Frank Sheen and others, took the stage to perform with the Jay Patten Band. Proceeds from Jay Patten's album release celebration were donated to MusicCares.
Saxophonist, composer and vocalist Jay Patten has played on hundreds of recordings for such diverse artists as Johnny Cash, Lobo, Pure Prairie League, David Loggins, Nanci Griffith and many more. Jay, along with his Jay Patten Band, is a mainstay on the Nashville night scene and the concert stage, opening for Maynard Ferguson, Taj Mahal, Stanley Jorden, Ray Charles and others. In 1982, he gained the distinction of becoming the first artist to step foot on the stage of the now world famous Bluebird Cafe. Ever since, Jay and his band have hosted the club's annual anniversary and Christmas shows, performing with Rita Coolidge, John Prine, Janis Ian, Lee Greenwood, Michael Johnson, just to name a few.
A recipient of the NARAS Super Pickers Award" for studio excellence, Jay Patten has released four well received albums including his CBS album Black Hat and Saxophone" which made the national charts as well as a music video that was featured on VH-1. Other projects include Impressions of Christmas" and his big band project, All In Blue Time", featuring his friend Buddy DeFranco. His recently released album, Night Blue", which features eleven new songs by Jay and a captivating rendition of the classic Harlem Nocturne", is receiving rave reviews.
