New York, NY – The Nu Jazz Agency a longtime producer of digital content in the genres of jazz and Summertime Music a Canadian music production company in the genre of jazz, announced the March 2015 release of the new digital album, Johnny Summers: Piano Sessions – Volume 1 (Deluxe Edition) on iTunes with a special digital booklet & (2) bonus audio tracks, and on other digital music services around the world with bonus audio tracks.:

Most musicians say they are lovers of great songs, but very few are able to show it in the way that Johnny Summers does! With the new digital album, Johnny Summers: Piano Sessions – Volume 1 (Deluxe Edition), Johnny shows why he has become Canada’s best kept musical secret in Jazz. Hailing from Calgary, Alberta in Canada; for the past 10 years Johnny has been the Artistic Director of the Calagary Jazz Orchestra, a repertory orchestra which is Canada’s only year round performing large jazz ensemble. In this capacity, Johnny Summers has performed as featured trumpet soloist, and conductor during its regular season performances. With Piano Sessions – Volume 1, Johnny steps into the spotlight, showcasing his not only his trumpet skills, but his vocal chops as well.

Piano Sessions Volume 1 (Deluxe Edition), the iTunes album, includes a bonus digital booklet with liner notes written by the Wall Street Journal’sWill Friedwald, and (2) bonus audio tracks not available on the original CD. With a wide-range of songs from jazz standards to country classics, from originals to Broadway hits, Johnny shows such a mastery of song and repertoire, there’s little reason to doubt why he’s gained a reputation in Canada for being a musician’s musician.

The album comprises (13) tracks, and places the piano and voice/trumpet at the center piece of every song. Accompanied by award-winning pianist, Chris Andrew on all tracks, Johnny brings in a “who’s who” of top Canadian Jazz musicians as special guests including the following: Shane Statz, Tenor Saxophone; Johanna Sillanpaa, Vocals; Kodi Hutchinson, Acoustic Bass; Al Muirhead, Trumpet; and the Canadian Supergroup The Polyjesters (featuring Jason Valleau, Acoustic Bass & Vocals, and Sheldon Valleau, Ukulele & Vocals).

“For a long time I’ve wanted to do an album that focuses on a central voice with pretty much just a piano,” says Johnny. “With this recording I really sought to open things up musically, to strip things down and allow the real tune to come through, not the production but the song and musicianship of everyone. In a world where everything is over-produced and crafted I wanted to make a raw organic statement and let this record be about the music, not about the production.”

“Johnny Summers is a trumpeter and singer from Canada whose name was new to me up to the point when this album arrived, but what I immediately liked about him is that it was apparent from the gitgo that he shares my conviction that a great song, is a great, is a great song,” says liner notes writer Will Friedwald. “It's possible to be too versatile, and be crazed by having too many choices, but Johnny Summers knows what exactly he wants to do, and does it.”

The Nu Jazz Agency & SummerTime Music is proud to herald the release of Johnny Summers: Piano Sessions Volume 1 (Deluxe Edition) on iTunes and other digital music services around the world.
