KD3 Continue Their Nation-Wide Jaunt In Support Of Their Critically Acclaimed Instrumental Jazz Album Entitled, 'Lunar Orbit'
NEW YORK, NY: Saxophone groove merchant , Karl Denson, has just wrapped up the recording of “LUNAR ORBIT", his newest endeavor, featuring THE KARL DENSON TRIO (KD3).
KD3 is a stripped-down unit of keyboard, drums and sax that owes as much to the venerable tradition of jazz organ groups as to the contemporary groove-based milieu of the GREYBOY ALLSTARS. The Trio is bold statement about jazz - past, present and future and in keeping with Karl's vision of jazz as dance music, the project manages to find an innovative approach to jazz in some varied & unexpected places.
Currently on tour, the Karl Denson Trio announces that their nation-wide jaunt will include co-headlining gigs with New Orlean's based funk outfit, IVAN NEVILLE'S DUMPSTAPHUNK. Performance dates for the highly anticipated collaboration currently span BATON ROUGE, ATLANTA & ASHEVILLE.
Denson notes, “Between the sweet funk that comes out of Dumpstaphunk and the psychedelic jazz that KD3 are hittin', this run is going blow audiences minds."
Founders Ivan and Ian Neville (sons of both Aaron Neville and Art Neville respectively) formed DUMPSTAPHUNK in 2003. Ivan Neville initially put the project together on a whim in order to perform the New Orleans Jazz and Heritage Festival. Keyboardist Ivan Neville called in Cousin Ian Neville (guitar), double bassist's Nick Daniels and Tony Hall and drummer Raymond Webber to round out the show.
Named after a song Ivan had recently written, DUMPSTAPHUNK and their informal performance became that of immediate legend. Recently named 'Best funk band from New Orleans' by the New York Times, DUMPSTAPHUNK as grown into what is now widely considered to be New Orleans' most popular musical export.
