The Jazz Bridge “Jazz in the Wood,” First Thursdays, Neighborhood Concerts Series at the Collingswood Community Center, East Collings Avenue in Collingswood, NJ—presents saxophonist/flutist/poet Elliott Levin and his quartet on Thursday, December 4. One show starts at 7:30 p.m., tickets are $10/$5 for students, and are only available at the door. For info: 856-858-8914 or 215-517-8337.

Classically trained at the University of Oregon and via private studies with the Philadelphia Orchestra’s Michael Guera, Levin has since become one of the region’s premier exponents of Free Jazz, and as a published poet, often pairs the two aesthetics in performance. His playing, frequently heard on European stages, is not limited to the avant-garde, as he’s spent a good deal of time with the likes of Harold Melvin and the Blue Notes, and the pioneering World Music ensemble, Atzilut. Levin has received awards from New American Radio in New York, the City of Los Angeles Cultural Affairs Department, the Pennsylvania Council for the Arts, and the California Endowment for the Humanities.

Jazz Bridge, an award-winning nonprofit dedicated to assisting Greater Philadelphia Metro area jazz and blues musicians and vocalists in times of crisis, sponsors these neighborhood concerts throughout the region to keep the sound of Philadelphia alive.
