Montreal—Organizers of the Festival International de Jazz de Montréal were proud to learn that their event had been named Festival of the Year by the Canadian Music and Broadcast Industry during the Canadian Music Week gala, held last Thursday evening at the Fairmont Royal York in Toronto.

Alain Simard, president and founder of the Festival International de Jazz de Montréal, is delighted: “We are very honoured to receive this award. It is the result of many years of effort poured into building the Festival into the largest event of its kind in the world. It is an event with something for everyone, to the benefit of the country: first, because it offers an incredible springboard to thousands of artists from here and abroad; also, according to an independent impact study, the Festival generates over $100,000,000 per year in new spending linked to its activities and to tourists here especially for the event, thereby contributing more than 80 million dollars to the Canadian GDP and to the creation of 1374 annualized jobs, making it our most important tourist event."

Recognized as one of the preeminent events in the North American music industry, Canadian Music Week, celebrating its 29th year of existence, is a major annual event devoted to the growth of music, new media and the entertainment industry in Canada. Over the course of five nights, the CMW combines conferences, a trade exhibition, award shows, a film festival, and Canadian Music Fest, the largest new music festival in the country. Canadian Music Week showcases 800 artists and groups in 60 venues throughout downtown Toronto.

The complete indoor concert program for the 32nd edition of the Festival International de Jazz de Montréal will be announced on April 26, while the program for the free, outdoor concerts will be made public in June.
