Jazz trumpeter Adam Meckler and his quintet are set to release their first full-length album. Since relocating to Minneapolis in 2008, Meckler — who hails from Chicago and studied at Lawrence University — has quickly established himself as a bright star in the Twin Cities jazz scene. As a trumpet player, Meckler already finds himself in a class of his own locally, combining technical savvy with fresh, thoughtful improvisation — but it's perhaps his compositions that make this young musician one to watch.

Meckler was attracted to the Twin Cities because of an already white hot modern jazz scene anchored by ensembles like Happy Apple and Fat Kid Wednesdays — whose bassist Adam Linz was the first to join Meckler's quintet. The balance of the line up turns heads as well — Brandon Wozniak (Atlantis Quartet) tenor sax, Zacc Harris (Zacc Harris Trio) guitar, Greg Schutte (Minneapolis Dub Ensemble) drums.

Meckler's debut album was intended as a farewell to his father, who passed suddenly last winter — but to listeners it also represents the arrival of Meckler as a noteworthy new force in modern jazz composition. All ten tracks were written by Meckler and provide a lush foundation for the interpretations of his ensemble. Whether it's his taut, tasty soloing or rare brand of composition, one thing's for sure — Adam Meckler has raised the bar in the Twin Cities and people (including the world-class players on his album) are taking note.

“It's really been a treat to work with these guys. Their playing made this album what it is. I can't wait to share our work with others,"said Meckler.

Audiences won't have to wait long. The album is available September 1st, with an official release party to follow October 2nd at Dakota Jazz Club.
