The 22nd Edition of Earshot Jazz Festival: October 15 to November 7, 2010

Seattle's annual Earshot Jazz Festival returns October 15 and continues through November 7 with more than 50 distinctive concert events in venues all around the city.

Known for “adventurous, spot-on programming" (Jazz Times) and praised as “one of the best festivals in America" (Seattle Times) the Earshot Jazz Festival brings jazz greats from around the world into creative collaboration with area artists and audiences. Earshot also celebrates Seattle's place in the world of jazz, with concerts by our award-winning high-school jazz programs and our own renowned resident artists. Some of the highlights planned for this 22nd Earshot Festival include:
  • An opening concert with the multi-award-winning Garfield High School Jazz Band with returning alumni and a special guest artist
  • Former US Poet Laureate Robert Pinsky performing with Seattle pianist Marc Seales & bassist Evan Flory-Barnes
  • World-Jazz and traditional artists Vagabond Opera, Maria DeBarros, Natacha Atlas, and Ordo Sakhna
  • Adventurous improvisers Eugene Chadbourne, Wally Shoup, Darius Jones, and Matana Roberts
  • A rare Seattle appearance by the Chicago Underground Duo
  • Seattle artists Mark Taylor, Thomas Marriott, Matt Jorgenson, Ziggurat, and the David Haney/Julian Priester Duo in concert performances of new, original work
  • A unique pairing of vocalists Toshi Reagon & Meklit Hadero
  • Canadian trumpeter Lina Allemano with her new group
  • Violinists Daniel Bernard Roumain (DBR) in a special performance with the Haitian vocalist Emeline Michel
  • The jazz super-group “Heaven on Earth," featuring James Carter, John Medeski, Adam Rogers, and others
  • Conceptual artist DJ Spooky with classical cellist Joshua Roman and the Odeon chamber quartet
  • Vocalist Gretchen Parlato sharing a bill with emerging saxophonist Tia Fuller and her Quartet
  • French pianist Jean-Michel Pilc in a solo concert at Seattle Art Museum
  • The critically acclaimed saxophonist/composer Steve Lehman with his New York octet
  • Japanese film composer Ryuichi Sakamoto in a rare, two-piano and film concert at Seattle's Moore Theater
  • The venerable jazz bassist Rufus Reid with his new trio
  • New York guitarist Elliott Sharp's solo Thelonious Monk tribute
  • The Seattle Repertory Jazz Orchestra performing a program of jazz composed for Hollywood films
  • Cuban drummer Dafnis Prieto with his new Proverb Trio
  • The fiery Norwegian duo Ballrogg
  • Fabled guitarist Bill Frisell New Beautiful Dreamers Trio & Guests
  • Former Seattleite Carmen Staaf Trio
  • Saxophonist Michael Blake's tribute to Lucky Thompson
  • Drummer Brian Blade and his Fellowship band
  • Guitarist Nguyen Le Trio with saxophonist Rudresh Mahanthappa
