February 22, 2001, Cleveland, OH — A Love Affair/The Music of Ivan Lins, a new recording from Cleveland-based Telarc International, has received the Grammy Award for Best Male Pop Vocal for Sting’s performance of “She Walks This Earth” (“Soberana Rosa”). Telarc, in its twenty-third year as one of the world’s most distinguished independent recording companies, was nominated for eleven Grammys by the National Academy of Recording Arts and Sciences. The 43rd Annual Grammy Awards Ceremony was held at the Staples Center in Los Angeles on February 21, 2001.

One of the most-talked-about albums released in 2000, A Love Affair/The Music of Ivan Lins unites a stellar group of pop and jazz greats with one of Brazil’s most gifted composers. This collection of eleven Ivan Lins’ songs, most of which are adapted into English, presents a contemporary American vision of his music. Another track from the album, “Camaleao” with the late Grover Washington, Jr., was nominated for the category of Best Pop Instrumental Performance.

“We are grateful that Sting was able to perform on this recording, and we offer him our sincerest congratulations,” says Bob Woods, Telarc’s President. “Sting is a fantastic musician and a generous person, and fortunately for us, a devoted fan of the music of Ivan Lins.”

Since 1980, Telarc has been honored with thirty-five Grammy Awards for performance, production, and engineering. Other important awards have included the French Grand Prix du Disque and Diapason d’Or; Japan’s Record of the Year; and Germany’s Audiophile CD of the Year. Although it began as a classical-only recording company, it now boasts a catalog of over 600 recordings, ranging from classical and classical-crossover to jazz, contemporary jazz, and blues. Telarc releases approximately fifty-five recordings each year, working with a notable roster of artists.

A Love Affair/The Music of Ivan Lins (CD-83496) was released on September 26, 2000.
