New York, NY: The incomparable Stix Bones will be hosting another Jazz Night at the renowned Metropolitan Room in NYC on Saturday, August 25, 2012, at 9:30 PM. The internationally esteemed Metropolitan Room is one of the most critically acclaimed venues in NYC and home to big name talents as well as rising stars. Jazz Night is a seventy-five minute performance highlighting music from the forefathers of Jazz such as Miles Davis, John Coltrane and Dizzy Gillespie, and original compositions by drummer Stix Bones. The event will showcase the musical prowess of a variety of rising stars along with well-known popular Jazz artists as well.

And what else can one say of Stix Bones? He is not only a great musician/composer, but a consummate showman and entertainer as well. Hailing from the borough of Brooklyn, he received his BA degree in Jazz Performance from Purchase College, State University of New York. It was there that Stix was given the name BONE by his fellow musicians, an acronym for “Brother of Noble Excellence,” because of the mutual respect they shared. Stix released his highly successful first full-length Smooth Jazz album entitled Groove Like This in 2007 and is currently working on his follow-up release. Groove Like This has graced the airwaves of more than forty jazz radio stations in the U.S., Jazz internet and satellite stations across the globe, and has charted in the top 10 on the digital Jazz charts while reaching the top 20 Jazz charts in France. At the Metropolitan Room Stix will be playing various popular styles and tunes from the past, right up to the Smooth Jazz tunes of the present, including from his Groove Like This CD, and he’ll be featuring a variety of talented recording artists.

“Stix Bones is an artist/composer that you definitely should keep your eye on. The music on his Groove Like This CD captivates from start to finish. Very impressive!”—J. Anderson, 90.5 WJAB, Huntsville, AL

Not an artist to sit still for long, Stix is currently the primary drummer for Derrick N. Ashong & Soulfège, the internationally acclaimed group led by Oprah Winfrey XM Sirius host Derrick N. Ashong, who fuses a unique blend of Hip Hop, Reggae, Funk and West African Highlife, and Stix appears on their latest critically acclaimed hit CD release, AFropolitan. Also, in 2010 Stix partnered with songwriter/producer/guitarist John Turco to form the Back Alley Players and release their hit Blues album Beyond the Blues, which features the chart topping hit “Nuttin’ But the Blues.” In addition, Stix co-wrote the recent hit single “Harlem River Drive" with songwriter/producer/guitarist Matt Marshak for Matt's CD release Urban Folktales. Stix‘s musical influences are a mix of Hip Hop and Jazz and he has built a respectable name amongst Jazz & Hip Hop artists while being credited as truly a ‘Brother of Noble Excellence.’
