Southport Records presents a NEW series of events at Katerinas on the first Saturday of every month, beginning on April 4th with a CD Release Party from label founder/pianist/composer Bradley Parker- Sparrow. The early evening sets will present a mix of artists from the label roster, featuring avant garde, classical and new music. As always, Katerinas serves great cocktails and fine food! Katerinas an eclectic club with its soul in the arts.

For the opening night of the monthly series, Sparrow will play solo piano selections from his new CD Release, The Black Romantic and will be joined by vocalist/partner Joanie Pallatto. FREE CDs will be given out to audience members who can answer film score questions from Joanie & Sparrow, so brush up!

On The Black Romantic pianist Bradley Parker-Sparrow is like a musical “blender" tearing apart classical, jazz and modern piano for a rich “stew of the new" with his 2nd solo piano effort, recorded on the famed Baldwin SD-10 9' Concert Grand at Sparrow Sound Design. As a self-taught pianist and composer Sparrow has always held fair game with any form of music, from Bela Bartok to Lennie Tristano. Without formal instruction, he is a human sponge. This is not an angry record, but rich with melodic schemes that also trace Maurice Ravel, Claude Debussy and Ahmad Jamal.

Joanie Pallatto is the featured vocalist on one of the sixteen tracks, “Shows of Wonder." Also included is a solo piano treatment of A Magical Vision the main theme from the new documentary film by Michael Caplan.

The piano is a poor mans Orchestra, since its invention, partly because of the early industrial revolution, when cast metal had the power to retain and hold stretched 9' strings it has been the mirror to the modern orchestra. The Black Romantic is a return to melody, contemplation and sure pianism. This CD is dedicated to the next term of Barack Obama.

Southport Records was founded in 1977 by pianist/composer/engineer Bradley Parker-Sparrow in response to the lack of production of new music in Chicago, from Chicago. The label focuses on new music of any form from Chicago artists and projects it to a world market.
