Two-time Grammy Award winners--Soweto Gospel Choir come to Swansea Grand Theatre as part of their autumn UK tour. Following enormous success on their last visit to the city, they have a brand new concert show Soweto Gospel Choir In Concert, which they will perform at the Grand on 10 October as part of the Swansea Festival of Music and the Arts. The show will feature new songs from their latest album Grace, which was released in June this year, together with some old favourites including Mine and Mbube (The Lion Sleeps Tonight) and This Little Light of Mine.
There is both classical and contemporary dance on offer at the Taliesin Arts Centre. On 1 October, Classical Indian Dance sees Rama Viadyanathan perform Bharatanatyam (a well-known style from South India) and Sarmisthia Guha, who enthralled audiences at last year's Dance Days Festival, performs the sensuous Odissi from the state of Orissa, both accompanied by live vocal and instrumental music.
On 9 October, Motionhouse Dance present Scattered, which combines their trademark--highly physical dance theatre and mesmerising aerial imagery with film and graphics--to create a unique visual performance event. Performed on a huge curved floor, seven dancers explore our relationship with water and how it features in different forms throughout our lives. They glide in the air or rapidly move around the space using aerial silks and harnesses.
Musical theatre comes to the Taliesin Arts Centre from 15-17 October with Theatr na n'Og's brand new production of The Bankrupt Bride, the story of a bridal shop owner whose life is all about getting brides ready for their big day. She believes she will never be a bride herself and with her business failing you could entitle her life as 'Overdrawn, Overlooked and Over the Edge' but this life is turned upside down when a man enters the shop looking to buy a wedding dress! Full of laughter and music this is an evening that will certainly raise your spirits.
