Soulful Post-Bop from Herbie Hancock

Its summer again. The clothes come off, tans are acquired (sort of) and, if you are us, you start to listen to soulful, post-bop sounds ranging from Herbie Hancock to the loopy tunes of DJ Food.

Maybe weve been watching too many movies about Dolemite and Foxy Brown. When we arent pretending to be living the poppy lives of our funky summer alter egos, we embrace darker and dingier sounds from Indian Jewelry, as well as the soothing yet humorous coos of Iggy Pop.

There are no two ways about it: Herbie Hancock is a legend. Working with Miles Davis, Hancock helped redefine what it meant to be a jazz musician. Later on in his career and in Chameleon, he began to experiment with funk and synthesizers, much to our delight.
