Sligo International Jazz Summer School 2008

Sligo Jazz Project has announced the faculty for its 2008 Sligo International Jazz Summer School (SJP 2008), Ireland's biggest ever jazz summer school, which runs from August 5-10 inclusive in the beautiful surroundings of Yeats Country in Ireland's northwest. This is the third in a hugely successful series of summer schools which has already attracted international greats such as Rufus Reid (USA), Norma Winstone (UK), Sandro Gibellini (Italy), Greg Burk (USA/Italy) and Dominique DiPiazza (France). The 2008 faculty includes 4 US artists, 2 Grammy winners, Paul Wertico (returning for a second year) and New York double bassist Todd Coolman, BBC jazz award winner Anita Wardell, plus Oscar Peterson's stunning guitarist of 10 years, Ulf Wakenius, one of the UK's finest saxophonists Julian Arguelles and long-time Steve Coleman sideman Reggie Washington. The summer school will be again held in St Edwards School, Sligo but we have also added another building on the same street, Ballinode College, so will have plenty of space for all workshops.

FEES

This years fee is 500 with a 20% discount making it 400 if you book and pay by the 15th of JUNE, 2008. We are continuing our successful relationship with Yeats Village and again offer accommodation from an extra 100 per person sharing a house of 6. See website for details. The associated Sligo Jazz Festival will feature performances from the above as well as The Midlands Youth Jazz Orchestra, a 23 piece big band and one of the UK's finest jazz orchestras and other guests TBA.
