SF Jazz adds Roots to the 10th Anniversary Sfjazz Spring Season

Randall Kline, the Executive Artistic Director of SFJAZZ—the leading non-profit jazz organization on the West Coast and the presenter of the San Francisco Jazz Festival today announced the addition of The Roots on Saturday, May 30 at 8:00pm at Davies Symphony Hall to the artist line-up for the 10TH Anniversary SFJAZZ Spring Season.

Grammy Award-winning hip-hop trailblazers The Roots are one of the most influential groups in music. Known for their prolific lyrics and live instrumentation, the legendary Philadelphia crew is composed of Tariq “Black Thought" Trotter on vocals, Ahmir “? uestlove" Thompson on drums, Kamal Gray on keyboards, Frank Knuckles on percussion, Kirk “Captain Kirk" Douglas on guitar and Owen Biddle on bass.

Garnering critical praise throughout their career, The Roots have firmly established themselves as a band with uncompromised artistic control and integrity. The Roots are also the house band on the brand new NBC show, Late Night with Jimmy Fallon.

The 10TH Anniversary SFJAZZ Spring Season, the unique and spectacular four-month-long concert series, begins on March 6 and continues through June 21.

The season will present some of the most illustrious names in jazz, world, and related music including McCoy Tyner, Branford Marsalis, Madeleine Peyroux, Michael Feinstein: The Sinatra Project, Battle of the Bands: Tommy Dorsey Orchestra vs. Glenn Miller Orchestra, Bill Frisell’s Disfarmer Project, Ahmad Jamal, Jenny Scheinman, John Scofield & The Piety Street Band, Hugh Masekela, Kayhan Kalhor & Brooklyn Rider, Tinariwen, Chris Potter Underground, Will Bernard, Mariza, CU, Mingus Dynasty with John Handy, Allen Toussaint, Karrin Allyson, Idan Raichel, Brad Mehldau, Richard Bona & Lionel Loueke, Roy Hargrove, James Carter, Kenny Burrell, Michael Wolff, Hiromi’s Sonicbloom and many others.
