Through her new work The Air Suite commissioned by Brecht Forum, the saxophonist and composer, Saco Yasuma intends to express various characters of the air by musical expressions and dance movements. The ensemble consists four veteran musicians besides Yasuma; Roy Campbell Jr. on trumpet and flugelhorn, Andrew Bemkey on piano and bass clarinet, Ken Filiano on bass, and Michael T.A. Thompson on soundrhythium percussion. And this time she invites a young powerful dancer, Amon Bey in order to add another dimension to her music. These six components will interact each other horizontally and vertically, make the invisible air visible, and create the fresh and flavorful audio-visual space.

The Air Suite was commissioned by The Brecht Forum for its Neues Kabarett series with the generous support by The New York State Music Fund, established by the New York State Attorney General at Rockefeller Philanthropy Advisors. Neues Kabarett is also supported with public funds from the NYC Department of Cultural Affairs.

Review for the new release “Another Rain"

“These compositions are substantial pieces that are heavy on melody but not short on freedom either." - Elliott Simon, All About Jazz

“She uses form and content as well as she does free idioms, making every phrase potent." - Jerry D'Souza, All About Jazz

“Each piece has a rich melody to savor, no small task considering that this is Ms. Yasuma's most auspicious debut" - Bruce Lee Gallanter, Downtown Music Gallery

“This is easily a must hear for free jazz fans that know there's been a lack of blowing like this for a long time." - Chris Spector, Mid West Record
