2006

Denver, Colorado, May 15, 2006 - Coming off eight sold out sets in New York City at Jazz Standard and the highly successful 2005 release Back On Top, Richie Cole Meets Art Pepper: “A Piece of Jazz History" on Jazz Excursion Records is available now for the first time on CD from RichieCole.com, all major music retailers and online stores.

Richie Cole meets Art Pepper: “A Piece of Jazz History" is the first and only recorded collaboration by these two great musicians. Cole plays not only his signature alto saxophone, but tenor and baritone saxes as well (a first!), while Pepper swings out on alto saxophone and clarinet.

Roger Kellaway, Bob Magnusson and Billy Higgins provide solid rhythm with a familiarity gained while backing both saxophonists on separate occasions. This historic session took place in San Francisco during 1982, and was originally released on Palo Alto Records vinyl under the title Return to Alto Acres (PA 8023). Sadly, Art Pepper passed away just four months after this recording was made. Jazz historians and collectors worldwide have long anticipated this release on CD, while others have been unaware that it even existed.
