Richie Cole and the Alto Madness Orchestra, Featuring Kate Baker Together in a Rare New York City Appearance

NEW YORK - From Friday, April 21st to Sunday, April 23rd, the world-renowned jazz club The Jazz Standard will host the dynamic Richie Cole and the Alto Madness Orchestra, featuring vocalist Kate Baker and pianist Don Friedman. Named “Best Jazz Club" by New York magazine, only the top jazz musicians grace The Jazz Standard's stages, and Richie Cole and the Alto Madness Orchestra are no exception.

Richie Cole and his Alto Madness Orchestra have long been one of the most sought-after jazz groups in the world. In a magical transformation that only the great Richie Cole can produce, the soulful sounds of seven instruments seem to become one of the great “big bands" that exploded onto the music scene during the Duke Ellington era. Topped off with the voice of Kate Baker, which The Boston Globe calls “smooth and hypnotic," the combination proves utterly unstoppable.

Recognized worldwide for the sweet sounds of his alto sax and the creativity behind his Alto Madness Orchestra, Richie has recently been listed in the 2006 edition of “Who's Who in America" for his mesmerizing music. His creative charts, upbeat music and unbeatable stage presence blend together to create a fusion of legendary musical talent that soars through the very heart of the audience. Cole has played with The Manhattan Transfer, the Buddy Rich Band, Bobby Enriquez, Sonny Stitt, Boots Randolph, Nancy Wilson and more. He has been a major contender in the jazz arena for decades and is regarded by his peers as one of the best the jazz world has ever produced.

Kate Baker's distinct and authentic sound enchants audiences across the globe. Her vocal style and masterful lyrical expression have launched her successful career as one of today's most coveted voices. Her hypnotic sound resonates with echoes of diverse inspirations from jazz, Brazilian, Latin, and blues music. Newsday has called her “brilliant," The Daily Gazette has raved about her “exquisite, captivating stage persona" and The Los Angeles Times has named her “impressive." At home with a Cole Porter standard or an Antonio Carlos Jobim composition, crooning in English or Portuguese, Kate Baker embodies the musician's singer.

The Jazz Standard, known for its award-winning menu of barbeque and vast array of beer, wine, and cocktails as well as its high-caliber music, is conveniently located at 116 East 27th Street in downtown Manhattan between Park and Lexington Avenues. Sets start at 7:30 PM and 9:30 PM, with a special weekend set starting at 11:30 PM for Friday and Saturday only. Doors open 45 minutes before the sets begin.
