On Saturday, April 28th, the Reddy Music Concert Series will present its inaugural event, featuring the debut performances of the Rob Reddy Quintet and Brandon Ross Intention, at Brooklyn's Jalopy Theater. This new monthly series, curated by saxophonist/composer Rob Reddy, is an extension of Reddy Music, the label he founded in 2006.
In a career that spans 25 years, guitarist/composer Brandon Ross has worked with everyone from the modern classical Bang on A Can All-Stars to pop songstress Jewel to Hip Hop's Arrested Development to funk and R&B innovator Me'Shell N'Degeocello to legendary avant-garde jazz composer Henry Threadgill. His regular projects include a duo with bassist Stomo Takeishi, a quartet, and the electric power trio Harriet Tubman. This performance marks the premiere of his newest group, Brandon Ross Intention, featuring cellist Will Martina and drummer JT Lewis.
Critics have called Reddy a versatile and adventurous saxophonist" (Scott Yanow, All Music Guide) and an impressive and open-minded tunesmith" (Troy Collins, AllAboutJazz.com), noting that he sounds, and dares to sound, like no one but himself (Brian Morton, Jazz Review). His fifth and most recent CD, A Hundred Jumping Devils (Reddy Music), was released in October and he will premiere his latest commissioned work, The Book Of The Storm," at the Tribeca Performing Arts Center on March 14th. His new quintet, featuring Charles Burnham, Jef Lee Johnson, Dom Richards and Pheeroan akLaff, will be premiering new music that will appear on his next CD to be recorded later this year.
