QUEBEC JAZZ CONTINUES MAY 21 AT JAZZ AT LINCOLN CENTER
Montreal's Francois Bourassa and Michel Donato are next up in Effendi Records series at Dizzy's Club Coca-Cola

As part of its Quebec Jazz series, Montreal's Effendi Records label will present some of its acclaimed artists and their best musical creations Monday nights this May at Jazz at Lincoln Center. Set times for Dizzy's Club Coca-Cola are 7:30pm and 9:30pm. Tickets are $15 or $10 for students.

On Monday, May 21 the pianist Francois Bourassa will take the stage in two settings - as a duet with bassist Michel Donato and also with a quartet featuring David Binney. Bourassa will be presented with the prestigious Oscar Peterson Prize at this year's Montreal Jazz Festival, a highly-regarded honor recognizing his contributions to jazz. It's great timing for Bourassa to be sharing the stage with Donato, since he was Oscar Peterson's bass player in the 1970s. Throughout his 40-year-plus career, Donato has also performed with such jazz legends as Carmen McRae, Benny Carter, Charlie Haden, and Gonzalo Rubalcaba.

Jazz at Lincoln Center recently established the UPSTARTS! series, with concerts Monday nights featuring up-and-coming artists or established artists from abroad. This year, several Quebec jazz artists associated with the Effendi Records label have been invited by Jazz at Lincoln Center to take part in this special series with these May performances. The May 21 performances by Francois Bourassa and Michel Donato follow the sold-out opening night of this series, which featured Yves Leveille sextet with American oboist Paul McCandless and Jazzlab with American saxophonist Donny McCaslin. The performance on Monday, May 28 will feature Christine Jensen quartet with trumpeter Ingrid Jensen.

Organized in collaboration with Jazz at Lincoln Center, one of the most prestigious concert venues in North America, this veritable artistic summit pairs established Quebec-based musicians and their respective groups with internationally-acclaimed American jazz performers. The primary goal of this initiative is to showcase the high quality of Quebec jazz, especially to the movers and shakers of the American jazz world. This project will allow the very best of Quebec's world-class jazz artists to benefit from serious international-level exposure and development.
